Service Projects
The principle of tikkun olam, "repairing the world", is a very important part of Judaism. The way we live has a powerful impact on the environment, wildlife, plants and our neighbors. By making small changes in our daily lives, being careful how we use our natural resources and working to protect nature and wildlife, our planet will be a healthier, more beautiful place.
There are lots of ways to help:
- Take steps at home and school to be more eco-friendly
- Teach others about what they can do to help
- Get hands-on with a nature clean-up or restoration project
American Idle
Raise awareness around your school about the harmful effects of idling cars and buses. Cars and school buses parked with the motor running pollute the air and contribute to global warming, waste money and fuel, and do damage to their own engines.
Energy Audit
Evaluate your home or your school (or both!), looking for ways to use less energy. Being smart about energy use keeps us from consuming too much, it saves money, and benefits animals, people and our planet.
Habitat Hero
Create or restore natural areas around your home or your community. Give wildlife a home by providing food, water, shelter and places to raise their young.
Lighten Up
Make the switch to compact fluorescent bulbs. It’s a quick and simple way to save money, consume less energy and keep harmful carbon emissions out of our atmosphere.
Pump Your Ride
Help the environment by teaching your family, friends and neighbors to keep their car tires properly inflated. Correctly inflated tires helps cars use less fuel, prevents flat tires and makes the tires last longer.
