Turkey Napkin Rings

What you need:

  • brown, black, yellow and red construction paper
  • scissors
  • toilet paper tube
  • tape
  • pencil
  • cup or plastic lid measuring three inches across
  • stapler
  • black marker
  • peanuts in the shell (optional)
  • craft glue

  • What you do:

Cut out a brown paper strip that's about one inch by eight inches. Wrap the strip around the toilet paper tube, overlapping the ends by about an inch. Trim off the excess paper and tape the end in place to make a paper ring. Slip the ring off the tube.

On a black scrap of construction paper, trace around the end of the toilet paper tube to make a circle. Cut out the circle.

On the brown paper, trace around a cup or plastic lid to make a three-inch circle. Cut it out. Then fold the circle in half and cut along the fold. Tape one brown half-circle to the back of the black circle as shown to make the turkey's body. Use a marker to draw in feathers.

Adults Only: Staple the turkey body to the brown paper ring, aligning the bottom of the black circle with the ring's edge as shown.

Color the outside of a peanut (in its shell) with a red marker. Don't worry about coloring in all the groves. Glue the peanut in the center of the black circle as shown. (If your child is allergic to peanuts, cut a peanut shape out of red paper, and glue in place.) Cut a small triangle from a scrap of yellow paper and glue it onto the peanut to make a beak. Use a marker to draw in eyes. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Repeat to make enough napkin rings for your family's Thanksgiving dinner.
