National Wildlife Federation Speakers Bureau

The National Wildlife Federation’s conservation work is focused in three major areas: confronting global warming; connecting people with nature by getting them outside; and safeguarding wildlife and restoring wildlife habitat. The organization has numerous experts in each of these areas who welcome the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise through speaking engagements. Larry Schweiger – President and CEO – With over 30 years working in the conservation arena, Larry has been a national leader in bringing the public’s attention to the need to confront global warming and urging the country’s Congressional leadership to step up and deal with this issue which threatens America’s wildlife heritage and the future of the planet.

Jaime Matyas – Chief Operating Officer – Jaime is passionate about giving kids time outdoors to explore nature and has been instrumental in leading NWF’s Reversing Nature Deficit campaign. As the mother of two young children she understands how connecting with nature can contribute to a child’s overall physical and mental health.

Jeremy Symons – Senior Vice President, Conservation and Education Programs – Recognized as one of the nation’s “Top Nonprofit Lobbyists” by The Hill newspaper, Jeremy oversees NWF’s conservation and education programs and is the organization’s chief lobbyist on energy and global warming issues. His experience includes serving as climate policy advisor for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Kevin Coyle – Vice President, Education – Kevin has committed 35 years to advancing America’s environmental education. An expert on “nature deficit” Kevin oversees NWF’s connecting people with nature programs and guides the organization’s policy work to get “No Child Left Inside” legislation passed in Congress and in state legislatures.

Jennifer Jones – Vice President, Strategic Communications – With a keen knowledge of consumer research and message development, Jennifer speaks on how to talk about complex issues such as global warming in a way that will resonate and motivate audiences to take action.

John Kostyack – Senior Counsel and Executive Director, Wildlife and Global Warming – an expert on the Endangered Species Act, John is responsible for advancing new strategies to safeguard wildlife from the impacts of global warming. John also has expertise on invasive species and state wildlife action plans.

Doug Inkley, Ph.D – Senior Scientist - A certified wildlife biologist by training with expertise in ecology and wildlife management, Dr. Inkley is one of the country’s leading experts on the impact of global warming on wildlife and wildlife habitat. He was the lead author of the 2004 report Global Climate Change and Wildlife in North America published by The Wildlife Society.

Steve Torbit, Ph.D – Regional Executive Director, Boulder, CO - Steve’s areas of expertise include agriculture and energy impacts on wildlife, particularly in the intermountain West. He has extensive knowledge on mule deer, elk , pronghorn and bighorn sheep. Steve coordinates NWF’s tribal partnership programs. His past experience includes working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and wildlife agencies in Wyoming and Colorado.

Amanda Staudt, Ph.D., Global Warming Scientist – Dr. Staudt provides scientific expertise for NWF’s activities on global warming. When she speaks to groups she is able to translate complex scientific therories into terms the public can understand. As the author of several global warming impact reports for NWF, Dr. Staudt connects the dots between global warming and weather related phenomenon including wildfires, hurricanes, increased flooding and drought in certain areas of the country.

Kim Winter, Ph.D., Habitats Program Manager – As head of the organization’s wildlife habitat program, Kim works with individuals, schools and communities around the country to develop landscaping that is wildlife-friendly. With a doctorate in wildlife ecology and management Kim can speak to the critical habitat elements required to help wildlife survive and thrive. Kim oversees NWF’s wildlife habitat certification program. Dr. Winter is fluent in Spanish.

David Mizejewski – As NWF’s Media Spokesperson and Naturalist, Dave focuses on teaching the American public how to help wildlife and connect with nature in their own backyard. He was host and co-producer of the Animal Planet’s TV series Backyard Habitat, and has made appearances on gardening tv and radio shows including NBC’s Today Show and the Martha Stewart Show. Dave is author of Attracting Birds, Butterflies and Other Backyard Wildlife and NWF’s Wildlife and Weather newsletter.

Barbara Bramble, Senior Program Advisor, International Affairs – A long time participant in international conservation issues, Barbara works with the United Nations on the REDD program, a mechanism for compensating countries for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation.

Felice Stadler, Director of Operations, Global Warming Solutions - A citizen organizer for NWF, Felice speaks to grassroots groups on a variety of topics including how to organize and motivate concerned citizens to participate in community, regional and national policy issues affecting the environment and wildlife conservation with special emphasis on energizing the public to demand government leaders create global warming solutions.
