Design Three-Dimensional Wildlife Scenes
Make a 3-D wildlife scene that really pops!
  • Scraps of cardboard
  • Colored construction paper
  • Crayons (optional)
  • Craft glue
  • Scissors
Step 1
Make the Background

Make the background, or the things you see in the distance. Cut out objects such as forest, mountains, and sky from colored construction paper. Arrange them on a sheet of black construction paper, leaving a border, as shown. Glue the objects in place.

Step 2
Make the Middle Ground

Cut out paper objects for the middle ground. These should be things that aren't quite as far away as those in the background. They could include grass, water, and a few trees. Glue a scrap of cardboard behind each one. Then glue the scraps onto the background. The cardboard backing will make the objects seem to pop out of the background.

Step 3
Make the Foreground

Cut out the animal you want in the foreground, or front of the scene. Make it larger than the other paper objects. Glue on paper features, such as eyes, a beak, or markings. Then, on the other side of your animal, glue several cardboard scraps. Glue these onto the picture.

  • Touchy-feely tip: Want to make the surface of your paper objects look rough or bumpy? Before you glue them in place, tape them to a brick, sidewalk, or tree trunk and rub a crayon across the surface.
