Campfire Songs
Campfires can connect people across the generations. You might not think you know any campfire songs, but you would be surprised how easy they are to learn or remember from your childhood.
Leading a campfire is about gauging your audience - are they in the mood to learn something new? Or do they want to rely on old favorites? When is their energy faltering? Or when does everyone need to calm down, look up at the stars and feel the warmth of the fire?
Practicing campfire songs with your kids in advance can increase everyone's enjoyment. Kids can take a leadership role, welcoming everyone, teaching a song or singing with confidence.
National Wildlife Federation visited Children's House Montessori School to record popular campfire songs. This school has an annual camping event for the students and their families. We wanted to record the kindergarteners to show you how even the very young can easily learn and enjoy campfire songs. Thank you so much, Children's House kindergarteners!
Tell us about your favorite campfire songs at our Campfire Song Flickr discussion board.
