The Campus Climate Champion Program puts campuses on the track to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions scientists say are necessary in order to avoid some of the most severe impacts of global warming. The Program is a way to formalize your campuses commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 2-3% per year.

Champion campuses will document their emissions reductions using greenhouse gas inventories, develop climate action plans to meet emissions reductions targets, and share their strategies with peer institutions, communities and elected officials.

NWF's Commitment

NWF is committed to working with Climate Champions with support from the Campus Ecology Program. NWF Campus Ecology staff will work with Climate Champions to:

• foster regional collaboration between the campuses through regional campus climate forums;
• identify speakers, develop workshops, and conduct outreach to other campuses and organizations;
• develop forums that provide opportunities to develop stronger regional networks between campuses and outside organizations;
• build networks will also be able to leverage large financial incentives from public and private sources;
• improve relations with utilities, businesses, and the local community to help shape policies that support climate action.  

Getting Started

A pilot phase of the Campus Climate Champion Program will run from Spring 2008 through August 2008 in partnership with 50 campuses. The Program will launch nationally in September 2008. Download a copy of the NWF Campus Climate Champion Program to participate.

All Champion campuses will also receive complementary Campus Ecology membership and the associated benefits such as free print resources and teleconference attendance.  More details about Campus Ecology can be found on our website at www.nwf.org/campusecology.
