Resource Packets

Project Resource Packets provide campus leaders - students, staff, faculty and administrators - with an overview of an issue, guidelines for taking action, a list of contacts with which to establish a network, and case studies.

You can order any of the Resource Packets below by emailing campus@nwf.org, or receive one free with your membership!

  • Buying Green the Easy Way
Your academic life requires you to use paper, coffee, and computers; learn how you can find environmentally-preferable examples of these products for you and your college. Also learn what it means for a product to have a third-party "ecolabel."
  • Environmental Management Systems
Tired of focusing on single projects, only to feel that you're neglecting others? You can address many inter-related issues while assuring they won't get forgotten next year by taking a systematic, comprehensive approach.
  • Alternative and Sustainable Transportation
Take on your campus's traffic/parking problems without attacking drivers! Learn how to limit parking demand instead of parking spaces by providing better options for bus riders, bicyclers, and pedestrians.
  • Ecological Building Design
Did your college build a glass-walled building facing north, wasting an opportunity to use passive solar heat? Make sure they don't next time! See what colleges have done with photovoltaics, composting toilets, greywater marshes, energy efficiency, and more!
  • Campus Watershed
Think your campus doesn't effect your water supply? Learn how policies regarding issues like water conservation, chlorine-free paper, lab chemicals, and proper toxics disposal upstream can improve the health and environment of humans and wildlife downstream.
  • Environmental Justice and Injustice
When industry pollutes the environment, it is often politically easiest to do so in ethnic or low-income communities. Learn how to combat this through work with community groups and campus-based actions.
  • Composting
Turn trash and leftovers into rich organic fertilizer for gardens and landscaping, while putting your campus on the cutting edge of waste reduction.
  • Four Rs -- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
Close the loop on your campus by implementing all four Rs. Includes tips on finding free recycling bins and combating waste before it begins.
  • Greenscapes
Leave the golf course look to the country club and help turn your campus from a putting green into a haven for native plants and animals, all while using less water, pesticides and fertilizers. (To learn more, visit our Backyard Wildlife Habitat section.)
