Kids' Endangered Species Pledge

(Note: If you are 13 years old or more, you can take the Endangered Species Pledge for adults.)

I pledge to help endangered species. I know that:

  • protecting wildlife is important for the future of the United States and the world,

  • when wildlife is healthy, it means that humans are also healthy,

  • when a plant or animal becomes extinct, extinction is forever.

  • I know that examples of endangered species include gray wolf, grizzly bear, chinook salmon, humpback whale and Indiana bat.

I pledge to do at least two items from this list:

    Draw and Color
Draw a picture of an endangered species and share it with my family or friends.
Draw a picture of an endangered species and mail it to my Congressperson or Senator.
Color in a picture of an endangered species such as a gray wolf or grizzly bear.
    Crafts
    Make a bat finger puppet.
Make a sea turtle craft from recycled materials.
    Read and Write
Read a book about an endangered species and tell my family or friends about it.
Read a National Wildlife Federation magazine article and share it with my family or friends.
Write a letter to my newspaper about why it is important to protect endangered species.
Write a letter to a friend or relative about why it is important to protect endangered species.
    Use A Computer
Find out which endangered species live near me.
Send an endangered species e-card from the NWF website.
    Spend Time Outside
Look for endangered species underwater by making a water scope.
Sit outside with a notebook and write observations about wildlife or plants.
Help wildlife in my community by picking up litter.
Help endangered wildlife and plants by preserving natural habitats and learning which plants are best to plant in my yard.
    Eat
Find out what fish are best to eat if I want to preserve endangered fish.
Eat organic chocolate so that forests do not have to be cut to grow cocao beans.
Eat organic fruits and vegetables so that chemicals are not poured into the homes of endangered species.
Make a butterfly from a pear.
    Make bear paw cookies.
