My husband & I are both retired & enjoy the wildlife that venture into are yard. We live in the city, but we do get wildlife. I have a Honeysuckle vine planted on the fence & the Hummingbirds love it. We have a feeder that my husband made for the squirrels that we keep sunflower seeds in. It not only feeds the squirrels, but also cardinals, chickadees,& other birds. The sunflower seeds tht were spilled out, rooted & we had a small forest of various sunflowers growing. We loved having them, as they really attracted the birds after they bloomed. It was so enjoyable setting at our patio table & watching them. Those sunflowers really attracted a variety of birds: a ladderback woodpecker, cardinals, chickadees, purple finches, even doves on the ground pecking at the seeds. There is a large walnut tree in the neighbors yard & the squirrels have been very busy gathering walnuts for the winter. I hope it isn't a sign of a bad winter to come. We also have a large birdbath that is often very crowded with various birds. My husband also built a bat house from directions I got off the computer. We really enjoy feeding, watering, & observing the wildlife that enjoy our yard. |

This summer was awesome because the Jap. Beetles did not eat all my tree leaves and roses. We had a spring frost that must have killed the grub worms. So it was such a pleasure to watch the deer nibble on a few leaves and the rabbits eat the weeds. The hummingbirds and butterflies are having a feast with the butterfly bushes. I race outside to take hundreds of pictures. I also keep a pair of binoculars by the window when I want to enjoy looking at the many species of birds. I saw a oppossum this spring near the stream of water that leads to my mailbox. There is a wonderful and dedicated raccoon that loves to inspect the trash before the trashmen pick it up. I actually got a picture of "Racky" in the trashcan looking quite helpless. Its easy to know when he is snacking because he makes so much noise opening and shutting the lid. Last year there was a ground hog in a large wooden tree trunk. He had dug quite a deep hole/tunnel. It seems the foxes knew just where he had moved because they were sniffing around the front yard. this year was the year for the rabbits. Three adorable bunnies hopping around the yard without any fear of myself or my sheltie dog. I worried they were getting to comfortable out in the open area. They don't know that a very large hawk scopes the area occasionally. And he shows no mercy. I once saw him swoop down from a 50 foot tree branch and scoop up a large frog. Yeah life is so exciting living among the forest. It changes constantly, so you never get bored. Sometimes after a very hard rain you can hear old dead trees fall to the ground with a loud thunder like boom. And I have to be careful not to step on wandering frogs along the driveway in the evening. They just love the warm wet surface to play on. I truly enjoy hummingbirds that come right up to my face when I am eating breakfast outside on the open deck. Bet you couldn't tell that I'm a little bit of a nature lover? |

Dear all, this is my story. the company i work for owns a lodge in the South Western part of the country in Uganda on one of the islands of Lake Bunyonyi, the name Bunyonyi means " a place of little birds" and indeed it is. there are very many species of birds bee eaters, weaver, Coucal you mention. We have planted trees that bare fruits to attract more bird so very soon. QWe have done this to conserve nature and instead of our visitor moving for a long distance to look for birds, they can bird watch right form our garden. And this will reduce pressure on the natural forests, thus promoting sustainable tourism. |

This summer I have seen more wildlife than I have in my whole life put to gether . Early this summer I went to James Island SC. There I saw thousands of crabs ,many star fish , 2 jelly fish ,hundreds of live sand dollars , and on the shore , millions of little black snells .After that I went to Hugry Horse East VA. to go horse back riding and I saw tadpoles , cray fish , minnows , sunfish , butterflies , dragonflies , frogs , sallamanders ,racoons , vulchers , a big harry spider the size of my fist , and a sand flea that my friend thought was a crab . Then when I got back home I saw a golden fench ,a long-billed thrasher , and a humming bird that flue into me . This summer has been the best summer ever . |
