Global Dimensions Pathway

eight pathways global

Eco-Schools is an international initiative, and the need for global solutions to the environmental issues we face has never been more urgent. "Sustainable development" is a term that encompasses natural ecosystems as well as the quality of people's lives and livelihoods around the world, seeking solutions that benefit both.

Today's youth are part of a global society. To be good citizens, they need to be familiar with concepts related to sustainable development and to understand the environmental, social and economic impacts of their actions. They need to be knowledgeable about global issues and to feel empowered to play a part in sustaining our world.

What Can Schools Do About Global Dimensions?

Schools, because they bring together a wide range of people and ideas, have a great opportunity to foster global perspectives. Through an Eco-Schools program, students experience and act on environmental issues in a personal and local way, but they can also explore the "ripple effect" through which local actions affect the wider world.

The first step in developing a global perspective is to complete a Global Dimensions Audit. The audit will enable you to focus attention on incorporating global dimensions into many aspects of the curriculum, including any other Eco-Schools pathways you may take on.

Has your school developed a great way to incorporate global dimensions? If so, why not share it with everyone on our Facebook page?
