Poetry Zoo, Part 2

Untitled Document
In the "Poetry Zoo" article in the January 2006 issue of Ranger Rick magazine, the author explains how to write several different styles of poems about animals. Why not try your hand at writing a poem about your favorite animal? Then send it in.

Don't worry—you don't have to be an expert poet. For a fun and easy way to get started, you might want to make up an animal acrostic poem like this one about a tiger:

Teeth flash
In the jungle.
Growls prick up
Ears.
Run!

See how to do it? Just write the letters of an animal's name so it goes up and down on a piece of paper instead of across. Then write each line starting with each letter in your animal's name, in order. Make the lines rhyme—or not, as you wish! Put it all together and you have an acrostic poem!
