Synopsis and Purpose of App
Each Appventure is structured around the life and habitat of a different “hero” animal. With Ricky Raccoon as a guide, your child will explore the animal’s world in an interactive, animated photo story. Along the way, kids have fun and foster their creativity through games and other activities.
Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures are created by the editors of Ranger Rick Jr.™ magazine and the award-winning animators at Moonbot Studios®, and produced by National Wildlife Federation®.

How do I restart the app?
Restart the app by double clicking the round Home button on the front of the iPad. A row showing the applications that are currently open will appear across the bottom of the screen. Hold your finger on the Appventures icon until it shakes and the red circle appears. Tap the red circle to close the app. You may want to close other apps as well while you are playing with Appventures to improve functionality.
The Appventure has a black screen, is frozen, or stuck on repeat. What do I do?
The quickest way to resolve this is to restart the app. (See above.) Closing other apps while you are playing with Appventures will free up memory and improve functionality.
If that does not solve the problem, turn off the iPad and then turn it back on again. To do this, hold down the On/Off switch on the top of the iPad, and then slide the red arrow to power off the tablet. Click the On/Off switch to turn the iPad back on.
If you are still having problems, double-check that you are running the most current operating system on your tablet.
As a last resort, delete Appventures from your iPad and reinstall it from the App Store. One of these steps is highly likely to solve your problem.
I don’t hear any sounds on the app. What can I do?
- First, check that the iPad volume is turned up.
- Double-check that the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the device has not been set to silent mode.
- If these suggestions don't fix the problem, confirm that the iPad has not been set to Mute and the Ring/Silent switch has not been set to rotation lock. Double-click the round Home button on the front of the iPad. Swipe the tray at the bottom of the screen to the right to show your sound controls. Adjust as necessary.
- If you are still having difficulties, try turning the iPad off and then restart the app. (See above.)
- Finally, update to the latest version of the app if an update is available.
The following two images show a way to fix the sound on your iPad:
I hear some sounds, but don’t hear any of the narration.
Check that the narration is not muted by tapping the leaf in the upper right corner of the screen to open the Settings Tree. Look at the Read to Me button. To hear Ricky and Lars speak, Read to Me sound must be turn on.
Ranger Rick Jr. Appventures does not launch anymore.
Removing and re-installing the game should fix this problem. Please note that you will lose your game progress and scores when you do this. If you have a backup of the game available from a time when it was still working, you can restore that with iTunes.
I have additional issues not listed here.

Our goal with regard to navigation is to provide you and your child various ways to experience the Appventure:
Play. Explore. Create. Activities are organized in these three sections. Many activities that appear in the Play and Create sections can be also be accessed within the Explore story, but to fully experience the app you need to visit each section.
Settings Tree. The leaf in the upper right corner of the screen opens an alternate navigation menu at any point within the app. Here you can:
- Turn narration sounds on/off. (NOTE: Music and other sound effects are not controlled by this button. To turn off all sound, use the volume controls or the silence switch on the side of the iPad.)
- Access any of the app sections, including the Home menu.
Explorer Map. Found within the Explore section, the Explorer Map is located in the upper left corner of the screen, next to the Home button. The Explorer Map provides the opportunity to jump directly to other pages within the Explore section.
Back and Home buttons. Use the buttons found in the upper left corner to return to menu screens or the app Home. Closing the app and re-opening will return the user to the place where they left the app.
Sammy likes to hide throughout the Explore section. Ricky will tell you how many times you need to find him to earn a sticker. Each time you tap Sammy he will reveal himself, then go and hide somewhere else within the Explore section.
I found all of the Sammy’s. How do I play again?
The short answer: The app must be deleted and re-installed.
The long answer: It’s important that the player’s progress is not lost when the app is closed or updated. Therefore, to completely refresh the Sammy game, the app must be deleted and re-installed.
The treasure chests within the pages of the Explore section each hold an animal sticker. When you find a sticker you can either go directly to your Sticker Board and make sticker scenes, or go back to the story and access your Sticker Board (in the Create section) at a later time.

No. The stickers you have found and your sticker scene will remain in place when you restart or update the app. (see answer to question above)
How do I make a new sticker scene?
There are two ways to erase the stickers from your scene:
- Drag unwanted stickers to the trash can button in the upper left corner. (NOTE: You will only see the trash can when you are pressing on one of the stickers.)
- Tap the refresh button (between the camera and the back button) to fully clear the scene.
How can I save my sticker scene?
Your sticker scene will remain as long as the app is not re-installed. Creations can be saved and shared by taking a photo with the camera in the upper left corner.
