Decide Where and When to Go

Talk to your family about where and when to go. Some rivers are more challenging than others with rapids that may be too tricky for inexperienced tubers. It’s best to sign up with an outfitter. Find one near you by visiting www.rivertubing.info, and searching for your state.

Ask Questions

Before you go, you might want to ask an outfitter:

  1. Is there white water or rough water anywhere along the route? What are the current conditions on the river? Is it safe for kids?
  2. When is the best time for families to go to avoid large, rowdy groups?
  3. How long is the tube float? How long does it take? Does the outfitter arrange to get tubers to and from the river?
  4. Can tubers stop and have a snack anywhere along the way?
  5. Is there a place to lock up car keys at the outfitter’s?
  6. Does the outfitter supply life vests or personal flotation devices (PFDs)?
Pack Up and Head to the River

Now that you're prepared, pack up your gear and head to the river for your tubing adventure.
