The brown bears are attracted to the Brooks River, connecting Naknek Lake and Brooks Lake, by the plentiful salmon that return in the fall. Most bears look for salmon walking on all fours or swimming in the river. However, this bear, whom we affectionately named "Ted," would look for salmon standing on his hind legs. On the late afternoon when this photo was taken, we were standing on the shore of the river when Ted came by looking for an early evening meal.
RAW file processed in Lightroom 4 with adjustments to exposure, white balance, contrast, clarity, vibrance, and selective adjustments to the bear for exposure, contrast, clarity, sharpness and noise.
