Wading Bird Rookery, St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park, FL
In the late afternoon, there was a great commotion caused by birds flying in and out of the Rookery, tending to nest building, nest defense, and feeding the young. The sense of urgency of the business of the Rookery was spurred by the steady calls of chicks to be fed. This Great Egret seemed to be taking a break from the action, folding wings as if to create a small space of quiet and to catch the warmth of the sun.
