Bayport, Hernando County, Florida, at the mouth of the Wickwee Watchee and Gulf of Mexico
Bayport, Florida, lies in Hernando County at the mouth of the Weeki Wachee River and the Gulf of Mexico. It is a piece of "old Florida," with wide expanses of sawgrass flats, occasional hemmocks, deep forests and an endless western sky. With a well maintained camping and boat lauch park, channels of the Weeki Wachee River serve sportsmen such as kayakers and fishermen access to the Gulf and a varity of good sports fishing. Historically, Bayport served as a small commercial port. During the Civil War it provided blockade running access to Confederate troops using small boats to evade a Union Naval blockade of the Bayport Weeki Wachee area.
