Lake Seminole Park, Seminole, Florida
A loud clicking sound announced the beginning of Immature Great Blue Herons feeding session. In a nest, high in a large pine tree about 150 yards across the lake, two Immatures fought for first to be fed by the adult who sat nearby wuth its head pointed skyward. The Great Blue feeds its young by regurgitating food into its mouth which is then accessed by an Immature's beak. Great Blues generally have two to three combative chicks and, as here, the Immture can grow to the size of the adult before fledging and feeding itself. Feeding time is predictably loud and rough.
