Chincoteague , Maryland, USA
This photo was taken about three weeks after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast in November of 2012. The pair of eagles in the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge had been destroyed in the storm. Here we see one of the eagles bringing a rather large branch back to rebuild the nest. I spent a couple of hours watching the process. Most of the shots taken were hindered by the trees and the location of the birds' nest. The next day I returned hoping to find the eagles working again, but to no avail. I felt very fortunate to have caught such a majestic bird carrying rebuilding its home.
