Estes Park, Colorado
I had been photographing in Rocky Mountain National Park in late April and was headed home when I spotted a number of photographers at the edge of a meadow just outside Estes Park. In winter, there are often Elk in that meadow but I could not see any wildlife when I pulled up. Then I found out that this female Bobcat had been hunting Richardson's Ground Squirrels for a couple of hours. Most people left shortly after I arrived and I was afraid that I had missed the action. But I stuck around and after lying quietly in the snow, she suddenly pounced and grabbed her prey. She was facing away but turned briefly before she left and I was able to make this great image. It was my first real photo opportunity with a Bobcat so I was VERY happy!
