I love loons. The day I took this photo it was overcast and a light rain mist at times. Since the lighting was so bad, I decided to try shooting using my flash. I shoot out of a very small raft. I use a monopod to support my Canon 400mm L series lens. Since the lens is very heavy I put the end of the monopod in one of my sneakers to prevent it from puncturing the bottom of the raft. I had been working with this loon a lot and it was very used to me and my raft. Often it would come in to close for me to focus on it. So, I shot 10-12 shots using the flash. I took a quick look to see how they turned out. They look really dark. I was going to delete them. The loon did something that drew my attention and I forgot about deleting the pictures. After I got home and downloaded them to my computer; I was very glad that I hadn't deleted them.
