Manuel Antonio Natl. Park, Costa Rica
Hiking in Manuel Antonio National Park, my wife and I were alerted to the presence of the sloth by some other hikers. It wasn't until I set up my tripod and long lens to get a closer view that we noticed there was a baby moving around on her. I attached my 1.4x teleconverter to the lens to get in even closer, forcing the lens to have a maximum aperture of f8 in the dark jungle. I pushed the ISO up to 800, and still had to shoot at around 1/30th of a second for a decent exposure. Fortunately the baby sloth stopped squirming enough in this one image, out of many exposures, where the mother appears to be smiling lovingly at it.
