Cape Kidnappers, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
This photograph of an australasian gannet was taken at the world's largest gannet reserve. The gannet is soaring above the steep, cliff top colony adjacent to the ocean. The young gannet chicks depart the colony after six months and fly 2000 miles over the Tasman Sea to Australia. They will not return for two to three years.
Minor adjustments to brightness and highlights. Photo was cropped.
