Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Virginia
Every Spring, many species of fish, including the Hickory Shad, make the spawning run from the Chesapeake Bay up several watershed rivers, including the Rappahannock River in Virginia. The spawn provides a temporary bounty for various birds, including herons, osprey, cormorants, and eagles. This is a Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) with a large Hickory Shad (Alosa mediocris). Thanks for letting me share, and thanks for looking!
