Verkhoturova, Bering Sea, Russia
We had climbed the cliff to watch the nesting bird colonies. Getting down involved a lot of sliding down sitting down as it was too steep to walk down. Once we arrived at the zodiacs we noticed a curious red fox trotting down the beach toward us. I first thought it would turn and run and just took a couple of shots with my smaller lens. I then decided to get out the larger lens and set up the tripod. The fox was totally unafraid and continued toward us. It headed to these rocks and I thought the lichen was a perfect match with the coat of the fox and took some shots. I like this one the best, with the fox staring right at me. It looks like this fox had some kind of altercation with another animal. It eventually continued past us down the beach.
