This image was taken at dawn on a bitterly cold morning just as the Swans were waking up. Most of this lake is frozen but thermal activity along the lakeshore keeps the edges open. I wanted to capture the peacefulness and tranquility of the scene helped by careful framing of the overhanging, ice covered, tree branches. The challenge with making this image was the cold. I could only remove my fingers from my mittens for about 20 seconds at a time before I would lose all feeling in my digits,
