Long Boat Key, Florida
I am fortunate to live near one of the largest Black Skimmer colonies in Florida, and to volunteer as a steward to protect the public beach area where they nest. Their flight over water is magnificent; this one had just grabbled a minnow and was repositioning himself for landing as a huge wave lurked in the background. Skimmers are threatened due to habitat destruction, and I am grateful to organizations such as NWF who conserve fragile environments for future generations of wildlife and promote education regarding wildlife conservation.
