my yard, Cohoes, NY (suburban upstate NY)
Over 15 years ago, I planted a spindly little crabapple tree, which has grown into a beautiful shade tree on my front lawn. I keep a bird-feeder full of seed, and in winter, the songbirds can feast on the tiny crabapples. My favorite birds are the cardinals, and I never tire of watching them. I am blessed by several pairs that stay year-round. The bare starkness of the crabapple tree in March made a perfect background and contrast to highlight the stunning color of this regal male cardinal, who I photographed through my kitchen window.
Cropping, and slight adjustments to contrast, brightness, and sharpness.
