Timberwolf Mountain, Snoqualmie NF, WA
A half hour before sunrise, I climbed 500 feet down this scree slope below our campsite on Timberwolf Mountain in the eastern Cascades to follow this foraging mountain goat up the slope from where we had seen him the evening before. I slid down the slope from one clump of bushes to another, making sure I could catch myself and my camera, tripod, and 500mm lens each step of the way. But just as I reached this point opposite the mountain goat, I felt a shower of rocks falling on me from the slope above; and looking up, I saw my Samoyed-Wolf mix dog come bounding down the slope with a happy grin on his face as he skidded to a halt in front of me, laughing at the goat, and with the goat staring back at him in mutual recognition of their relationship.
