Mole National Park, Ghana
Where West Africa’s rainforests begin to fade into the dry savannas, wildlife begin to migrate toward the permanent waterholes when the dry season approaches. This elephant is still uncrowded at the waterhole at the end of November, while damp mists still layer the surrounding hills with shadings from rich greens to distant white clouds; but the antelopes already grazing on the near bank, and the white elephant egrets gathering around the waterhole, foreshadow the transformation that will come as greens fade to yellow, and herds and flocks of many species begin to gather at this place of refuge.
