Shark Valley, Everglades National Park
This great blue heron was found stalking a fish at Shark Valley in Everglades National Park. The birds at Shark Valley are quite used to a lot of people traffic, so it is a great opportunity to get close up images of birds without having to use a super telephoto lens. While stalking, the heron remained motionless just long enough for me to take several overlapping shots to create this panorama. He struck right after I took my last shot and caught a walking catfish which he redily devoured.
Several sequential overlapping images were taken of the great blue heron. Each image was then seamlessly blended together in Photoshop using layers and masks all while keeping the integrity of the scene as it was observed. Color was then adjusted, dodging and burning, contrast and sharpening to optimize the raw image.
