Lassen National Forest, Northern California
I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to go out one night and photograph the 75,000 acre Chips Wildfire on the Lassen National Forest in California during the summer of 2012. This photo was created in an area of unburned vegetation surrounded by an otherwordly collection of burned out trees and shrubs. The glow from the fire and the smoke that filled the valley created an atmosphere unlike any I've ever shot in before. This photo spoke to me because of the glimpses of completely burned vegetation visible through the gaps in the still-living trees.
