Female Rough-legged Hawk
Photographer: Teresa McGill
Location: Central Lake,MI
Story:
We have been researching the bald eagle for the last thirteen years with from our winter eagle blind in one location for the last ten years. This year we sadly had to relocate. But with our extremely harsh Michigan winter this year...it wasn't long before we had visitors. This female rough-legged hawk came down from her breeding grounds in the Arctic tundra to spend her winter with us. She wasn't doing well when she first arrived. Since spending the winter with us where we put out carrion for the raptors...she is now healthy enough to make the journey back to her home.
