Viruga Mountains, Rwanda
This picture was taken during my first trip to Rwanda.
Guhonda, the mountain gorilla silverback in the photograph is one of the largest in the world. He is the alpha male of the 'Sabinyo' group of mountain gorillas.
Although he appears very calm in the photograph, Guhonda was very boisterous and loud that day; crashing into and breaking tall bamboo trees and beating his chest many times. The rangers who had accompanied me into the jungle explained that this 'show' was typical of alpha males, who like to impress the females in their group.
Contrast and color adjustments.
