I love to photograph bald eagles, but that means capturing photographs of their surroundings too. This nest sits in a field with Longs Peak behind it. On this particular day, I had been photographing eagles at another location but a dramatic sunset sky was developing. I knew there would be an opportunity to capture this nest in front of Colorado's iconic Longs Peak (it is the mountain that graces our state quarter) with hopefully some pretty clouds. Mother Nature delivered not only a beautiful sky but the male eagle posed for me on the branch nest to the nest where his mate was incubating eggs.
Adjustments include cropping, straightening, HDR merge of three exposures of the same image to bring out shadows and highlights, spot removal, saturation, noise reduction and sharpening.
