wild horses
Photographer: Livi Martin
Location: Pryor Mountain HMA
Story:
Two of Gringo's mares graze in the evening light among the wild flowers on the top of the Pryor Mountains in MT. Often, band size is less dependant on the stallions dominance than the relationships between the mares. Often, if a mare is not satisfied with the band she's in, she might leave to find a different band. That's why it's helpful for a band stallion to have a strong lead mare. If the lead mare likes the new comer to a band then the rest will follow her example.
