Cactus Coral
Photographer: Jeffrey Haines
Location: Key Largo Florida
The brilliant green texture of this cactus coral caught my eye, resembling some ancient script carved into stone. The green color comes from the algae living within the coral polyps forming a symbiotic relationship between plant and animal. This photo was taken in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, the first undersea park in the United States.
