Hayden Valley, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Early that morning this grizzly had caught and eaten one of the elk calves we had photographed the day before and then swam across the river and disappeared into the forest. That afternoon I was able to photograph the grizzly sleeping off his feast near the bank of the Yellowstone River. The ranger allowed me to watch and photograph the bear with the safety of the river separating us.
