Mating Pair of Great Horned Owls- Female (left) Male (right)
Photographer: Patsy Lewis
Location: Matanzas National Monument- Saint Johns County, FL.
Story:
This pair nested at Fort Matanzas National Monument from 2009-2012 (three seasons). This shot was taken the day before the mother (on the left) started nesting. They produced two owlets on February 4, 2012. I followed the owl family for three years, during which time I took many pictures of the five owlets they produced. This was the only time the parents were seen together on the same limb.
Digital Alterations:
Adjustments were made to the color, contrast, and brightness. The photo was also cropped.
