Black-billed Magpie
Photographer: Richard Rigterink
Location: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Story:
Often we spend over an hour waiting for just the right shot. We casually watched this magpie drop into a ravine and with only mild curiosity wandered over to check it out. The bird then put on a brief (10 second) colorful display of blue, green and white - very different from the black and white we associate with magpies. It was a case of point and shoot, and we were lucky. We've never seen a comparable magpie display
