Pelican Point on Dauphin Island, AL
The sun had risen enough to light the day, but hadn't yet peeked over the clouds above the water's distant horizon. I heard a "whoosh" and turned in time to see this Great Blue Heron about to land. I quickly snapped this photo just as this breeding adult landed on the sand. He stood there and stared at the same horizon the 2 women in the background were starring at for another 2 minutes, awaiting the sunrise like the rest of us.
