GRIZZLY BEARS
Photographer: Scott McKinley
Location: GRAND TETON NP, WYOMING
Story:
GRIZZLIES CAME VERY CLOSE TO EXTINCTION IN THE 48 STATES IN THE EARLY 70'S WITH FEWER THAN 200 BEARS. IF NOT FOR THE PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT, THE MOST POWERFUL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW IN THE LAND, THESE BEARS WOULD NOT BE HERE IN GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK SOME 40 YEARS LATER. AS A RESULT THERE ARE BELIEVED 700+ BEARS IN THE YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM TODAY
