Tala, Madhya Pradesh, India
Just outside my lodge room in the Tala village at the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, where daytime summer temperatures can exceed 45 degree centigrade, I found this Common Tree Frog seated expectantly, with infinite patience awaiting a droplet or a stream of water when someone would open the tap. The touching scene not only typified to me the dependence of cold-blooded animals on ambient conditions to regulate their body temperature, but also made a poignant and important statement about how closely the lives of animals are intertwined with that of humans, as also the preciousness of water, which we so often treat as a dispensable resource. And the brand name of the wash basin just completed the portrait.
