Great Gray Owl Squinting at Bald Eagle
Photographer: Alan Belford
Location: Tupper Lake, NY
This Great Gray Owl caused quite a stir in Tupper Lake, NY when it was observed by many people on Easter Sunday, 2013. I noticed the owl squinting and looking up - following its stare to see a Bald Eagle overhead. The owl was apparently hiding its bright yellow eyes from giving it away as it watched the eagle pass overhead. Once the eagle was gone, it resumed its relaxed pose looking for rodents. It repeated the same behavior with a pair of Common Ravens.
