Swainson's Thrush - yard
Photographer: Alan Belford
Location: Saranac Lake, NY
Story:
Late summer and early fall are great for birds in my yard and the fall migration of 2012 was exceptional. A dry summer had not produced any fruit and a feathered menagerie of frugivores came to feed on the dogwoods, Virginia creeper, and black cherry which had fared better in my yard and my neighbor's garden. Swainson's Thrushes were constant visitors with 10-12/day for about three weeks. Here one pauses from feeding to rest and I captured it stretching its gape.
