Is Online Learning for You?
The idea of taking a course online is new to many people, although more and more people are doing it every day. Experienced online learners share the following Top Five Tips for Successful Online Learning:
Set aside between 15 and 20 minutes at a time to focus on learning. You do not have to start and complete a course in one session, but you will get more out of it if you can focus without too many distractions. If you don't have 15 minutes at a time to focus on a course, then online learning may not be ideal for you.
Set your own pace. Everyone has different learning styles, and you can adapt your pace to what works best for you. The courses are designed to take approximately 30 minutes to complete, but you can leave the course at any time and come back to it another day. You may also want to spend twice that amount of time in a course at one sitting. The great thing about online learning is that you decide what you want to learn and when.
Take advantage of the quizzes in each course. No one is grading you, and we don't share your personal quiz scores with anyone. Quizzes are just a great way to check your progress and they are an important part of the learning process because they provide you with feedback you can use to continue your learning.
Tell others about what you are learning. Research indicates that when you share what you have learned with others you are much more likely to remember that information and find creative ways to apply it. You will notice that each course includes a variety of suggestions for how you can get involved. Find one that appeals to you and enjoy doing it! Also, be sure to check out the e-cards included in each course; they provide a fun way to tell your friends what you have learned.
Make learning a regular part of your weekly routine. Even if you can only fit 20 minutes a week into your schedule, try to carve out a weekly "learning escape" for yourself. You deserve it!
