Eco-Schools USA Climate Change Connections:
Links to Our Past, Present, and Future

Eco-Schools USA Climate Change Connections (CCC) is a 9th-12th grade curriculum, designed to build upon and utilize the many NASA mission resources, programs, and associated interfaces to enhance authentic learning experiences for both educators and students. It seeks to develop an integrated systems-thinking approach to understanding and acting upon the issue of climate change. In collaboration with mission specialists from ICESat, LandSat, Terra, AQUA, and AURA, a cross-programmatic curriculum was developed to provide a systems-thinking approach to addressing real-world Earth systems problems. At the same time, it is our desire that educators utilize this curriculum to attract and retain students in STEM disciplines and inspire the next generation of Earth scientists.

Before using this curriculum, please make sure you are a registered Eco-School, participate in the free training through Wildlife University, and read through the information in the Getting Started tab.

Curriculum Overview / Resumen Curricular en Español

Along with an overview of the curriculum, you will find links to the National Science Education Standards, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Educational Technology Standards. The lesson summaries as well as recommendations for teaching can be located in the curriculum overview along with information regarding the use of science notebooks and strategies for interdisciplinary teaching.

NAAEE Guidelines for K-12 Global Climate Change Education

The National Wildlife Federation in partnership with NAAEE, developed these guidelines to serve as a tool for teachers to better understand how to teach about climate change at the appropriate cognitive and emotional level of their students.

Module I introduces students to both the Eco-Schools USA program and My NASA Data, the portal used to collect data throughout the curriculum. Students will also learn about environmental audits and conduct an energy audit in preparation for a school-wide project. If needed, a refresher lesson provides students with an engaging out of their seats opportunity to remember the importance of the carbon cycle.
