Latest Step Toward Stream Protection Rule A Win For Fish And Wildlife

OSMRE Released Final Environmental Impact Statement for Stream Protection Rule

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) released its Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Stream Protection Rule. By issuing the FEIS, OSMRE has cleared a major hurdle in the process to get the final Stream Protection Rule approved before the Obama Administration leaves office.
“Completing this latest assessment on the environmental impacts of the Stream Protection rule is an important step forward to keep surface water and groundwater safe for both people, fish and wildlife,” said Collin O’Mara, president and chief executive officer of the National Wildlife Federation. “Once the Stream Protection Rule is final, it will help protect thousands of miles of streams throughout the country to the benefit of public health, local communities, the outdoor economy, and wildlife populations. Keeping our water safe from destructive mining practices must remain a priority in the coming years.”
