WASHINGTON, D.C. — Policymakers can help address the climate crisis by revitalizing and restoring America’s public and private forests and promoting natural carbon sequestration, according to a platform unveiled today by the Forest-Climate Working Group. The National Wildlife Federation, which is a member of the coalition, pledged to work with the incoming Biden Administration and Congress to ensure America’s forests endure for the benefit of wildlife and future generations.

“America’s public and private forests provide critical benefits for wildlife and people alike — and need to be a part of our national strategy to address the climate crisis. This policy platform rightly focuses on common-sense ideas, like boosting natural carbon sequestration through tax incentives for private landowners and strengthening the Reforestation Trust Fund,” said Julie Sibbing, associate vice president for land stewardship at the National Wildlife Federation. “We and our fellow members of the Forest-Climate Working Group look forward to working with President-elect Biden and the newly elected and re-elected members of Congress to transform this platform from word on a page into substantive climate action.”
