"We urge Congress to take up a balanced bill that will restore key ecosystems without undermining the Clean Water Act."
Today, the House voted to pass an Energy and Water Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2016.
Collin O’Mara, president and chief executive officer of the National Wildlife Federation, said this of the House vote:
"The Energy and Water bill passed today in the House of Representatives took one step forward for ecological restoration but two steps back for clean water. We are enthusiastic about increased support for national priorities like restoring the Great Lakes, the Everglades, and the Mississippi River Delta, but we were most disappointed with language in the bill that would deprive one-third of all Americans of cleaner drinking water by blocking efforts to restore Clean Water Act protections for smaller streams and wetlands. At the end of the day, we were unable to support the bill and welcome the promised presidential veto. We urge Congress to take up a balanced bill that will restore key ecosystems without undermining the Clean Water Act."
