WASHINGTON, D.C. — At an oil and gas conference in Pittsburgh today, President Trump announced that the United States will officially begin the process of withdrawing from the Paris climate accord. This is a move that comes in the wake of recent IPCC reports underscoring the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for immediate action.
“Pittsburgh has been moving forward on climate action, so it’s especially disappointing for President Trump to announce a lack of leadership there,” said Shannon Heyck-Williams, director of climate and energy policy at the National Wildlife Federation. “Clearly another administration will have to reengage America in the international effort to combat climate change. Until then, Congress must find every opportunity to cut emissions and boost resilience to unavoidable climate impacts — passing clean energy and transportation tax credit extensions, making natural infrastructure investments, and advancing energy efficiency policy are key near-term opportunities that can make a real difference.”
